Welcome to Viridian City, the eternally green paradise. Viridian City is a small city located in western Kanto. Here the Gym of the eighth Gym Leader resides. It's not suggested that you visit the Gym here first if you're starting out your journey as a Pokémon Trainer. Three paths, all major, lead from the city center. To the north is Route 2, as well as Viridian Forest, which lies in the middle of Route 2 south of Pewter City. To the south is Route 1, which leads to Pallet Town. To the west is Route 22, leading to the Indigo Plateau and the Pokémon League.

Pokémon Academy
A Pokémon Academy is a school where students and Trainers can learn more about Pokémon. Most beginning Trainers visit at least one of them, and familiar Trainers who study extensively at these locations are Lasses, School Kids, and Scientists. Much like the Pokémon Academy in Violet City.

Trainer House
A house where Trainers of varying skill can get together and battle. Many people enjoy the atmosphere of the place, and it is built near to the Pokémon Academy.

Viridian Gym
The Viridian Gym is the official Gym of Viridian City. It is based on Ground-type and Ghost-type Pokémon. The Gym Leader is Agatha now that she's retired from the Elite Four. Victors here receive the Earth Badge. Inside the Gym, the floor uses transporting tiles. The challengers must use these tiles to navigate through the Gym.

Route 2
Route 2 is a north-south route located in west Kanto. The northern terminus of the route is at Pewter City. Its southern end is located at Viridian City. One can enter Diglett Cave from this Route.
Route 22
Route 22 is a short east-west road located in western Kanto. The eastern terminus is at Viridian City. The western terminus is the Reception Gate, which leads to three different areas.
Viridian Forest
The forest that separates Viridian City from Pewter City. It had been cut down around ten years ago to make way for Trainers, but activists demanded it was regrown, and a considerable effort went into planting new trees and moving in mature trees from other areas to rebuild the forest. Now it grows lush anew. Many Bug-type Pokémon lurk here - namely Caterpie, Metapod, Weedle, and Kakuna. If one is lucky, they will manage to find and capture a Pikachu here.
