Pokédex Entry: A creature of the myths, Chimanter used to be common a few thousands years ago. Unfortunately, overhunting for its supposed mystically powerful organs means that Chimanter is a rarely spotted oddity in a time it no longer belongs in.

A large creature that stands nearly five feet tall, Chimanter is responsible for the myths of the chimera in ancient Greece and Rome. The creature, as myth would have it, looks like a vague mixture of a Luxray, a bird Pokémon of some species and it bears the tail of an Arbok. Still, it looks far enough from these species of Pokémon that most scientists believe there is no interconnection between them at all. Most myths about Chimanter also state that its cry sounds quite similar to that of a Gogoat, which is accurate, the creature does bray. As such, many ancient depictions of Chimanter will often add a Gogoat as a secondary head.

The real Pokémon, however, looks quite far removed from its myths. A vaguely feline creature, it bears a brown body primarily which is coupled with a very coarse white-brown mane. Its ears are also brown, jutting up and out from a green, spiky mask on its face which frames its dark eyes. Chimanter are broad chested and narrow hipped. On its shoulders are two short, vestigial wings that are the same color as its body. Its underbelly is the same cream-white color as its mane. Most interesting about Chimanter is its tail, a green scaled appendage that is the same length as its body and the same color as it scaly mask on its face. Shiny Chimanter are black, purple and magenta.

Etymology: Chimanter is an alteration of the word chimera and manticore.

Gender Differences: None.

Special Abilities: Like some snakes, Chimanter has venom sacs in its fangs, allowing for a venomous bite.

Behavior: Aggressive and never-to-be-crossed, Chimanter is the thing of ancient myth, often bespoke of as being a guardian of treasure or a foe that mythical heroes slayed. In truth, Chimanter is simply a seldom sighted creature that inhabits the ruins and crypts and tombs of ancient places. Chimanter lives primarily in Greece, Italy and neighboring regions. Their range has some overlap with Anadow, and there are legends that Chimanter and Anadow, when bred together, produce a new species of Pokémon. Chimanter is a very solitary creature, with mothers only raising their young out of adolescence before moving on.

Habitat: Greece, Italy and neighboring countries, most often in tombs.

Diet: Carnivorous.
