I don't know what it is with me and causing property damage in every fight I get into... wrote:

Feraligatr [Male]
Seno's first Pokémon, received as a Totodile from his parents, has been his companion for many years now. A ferocious combatant, Feraligatr is rude and blustery to everyone he doesn't know, snappy and wise-assed even to Seno, but for some reason, is like a giant puppy to Motoko. Despite this, his loyalty is unquestioned, as is his destructive capacity in combat. He's also Seno's HM beast.
Received in Ecruteak City.

Ability: Torrent
Move Pool: Waterfall, Rock Climb, Strength, Surf, Crunch, Whirlpool, Rock Smash, Cut, Scald, Dive

Image
Misdreavus [Female]
Captured while visiting the Safari Zone, Misdreavus was sought out by Seno because the ghost species reminds him of sohees from Ragnarok Online. And true to the type, the one he caught just so happened to be of a shy nature, and therefore frequently hides behind him when not in her Poké Ball. Especially so whenever they're within three miles of the dojo, given the school's reputation for exorcising ghosts.
Captured in the Johto Safari Zone.

Ability: Levitate
Move Pool: Power Gem, Perish Song, Grudge, Mean Look, Confuse Ray, Payback, Shadow Ball, Psychic, Flash, Hex

Image
Hydreigon [Male]
Hydreigon was given as a gift to Seno from one of his relatives in America, knowing his like of dragons. Despite his frightening appearance, Hydreigon's actually a big softie, and very popular with the children of the dojo for taking them on short flights around the city. That does not, however, mean that he should be trifled with. Dragons are scary enough, and this is not only a multi-headed dragon, but a multi-headed dragon that acts like it belongs in Skyrim. Fast, deadly aerial strafes followed up with close in, overpowering ground combat is Hydreigon's battle order.
Received in Ecruteak City.

Ability: Levitate
Move Pool: Dragon Breath, Dragon Pulse, Dragon Rush, Outrage, Body Slam, Crunch, Hyper Voice, Rain Dance, Flamethrower, Bulldoze

Image
Staraptor [Female]
Staraptor was caught as a Starly while wandering in the Pewter City area...after she fell out of a tree on Seno's head. Knowing that the little bird's parents would reject her since she'd come in contact with a human, he took her in and raised her. The result is a fully-evolved Staraptor that is fiercely protective of the swordsman. She is loathe to let anyone get near him, and only just barely tolerates allowing the school's heiress to do so.
Captured in Pewter City.

Ability: Intimidate
Move Pool: Fly, Wing Attack, Double Team, Endeavor, Aerial Ace, Take Down, Close Combat, Whirlwind, Final Gambit, Brave Bird

Image
Marowak [Male]
Acquired on a trip through Kanto's Safari Zone, this Pokémon felt a bit on the weak side for what most expect of a Marowak—even a wild one—when Seno moved to engage him. This reduced the difficulty in capturing him, though a lengthy training regimen solved that strength deficiency in short order.
Captured in Kanto Safari Zone.

Ability: Rock Head
Move Pool: Bone Club, Bonemerang, Bone Rush, Double-Edge, Endeavor, Retaliate, False Swipe, Focus Energy, Bulldoze, Dig

Image
Luxio [Female]
Captured on the same day as Misdreavus, Luxio is essentially the only other member of the team that the ghost is comfortable with aside from Seno himself. Luxio is in that middle stage of life, no longer as rambunxious and playful as she was when younger, but not yet having that sort of regal bearing that a Luxray would. Mostly, this means that Luxio vacillates between periods of extreme hyperactivity and extreme laziness. When away from home, Luxio helps keep all his electronic devices charged.
Captured in Johto Safari Zone.

Ability: Intimidate
Move Pool: Wild Charge, Discharge, Volt Switch, Crunch, Thunder Fang, Thunderbolt, Swagger, Substitute, Light Screen, Rest

It's not like I picked this mismatch by choice even though it's completely characteristic of me! wrote:Standing at six feet, Seno is unusually tall for a native of Johto, mostly due to his American/Unovan partial parentage. Otherwise, he is very visibly Asian, albeit with green eyes and a hair color shade more brown than black. His face also is more angular, and were one to stand him beside Masamune Date, they would have a similar facial structure, a fact that he has taken advantage of numerous times for cosplay at anime conventions.

His attire wildly varies. When on official duty for the swordsmanship school, he wears traditional clothing in the form of a black hakama and dark blue gi. When on his own time, he typically dresses in whatever is most comfortable given his location and the season. His most well-known attire is camo-colored cargo shorts and a red shirt with the image of 'Buddy Jesus' on it.

My reference pools may be limited, but the ones I do have are fathomless in their depth. wrote:The best phrase that can possibly be used to describe Seno is "genre savvy." He's a fan of all kinds of games and movies, and has a fair habit not only of stealing techniques from video games, but also spouting various lines from movies or video games at random, but often very opportune, moments.

A laid-back fellow by nature, he has a strong sense of justice, and is always on the lookout to interrupt, subvert, or otherwise meddle in the affairs of the villainous organizations. Aside from that, Seno is a dedicated and devoted individual, who won't hesitate to put himself in the path of danger to protect those he loves, particularly Motoko.

I walked straight into a bad anime... wrote:Born and raised in Ecruteak City, Seno was brought up as a swordsman in a school of divine swordsmanship said to be able to divide the heavens and cleave mountains in two. Early on, he was taken into the personal training group of the headmaster herself, acting on the wishes of her younger sister, the eventual heir of the dojo, who seemed to have a fancy for the swordsman-in-training.

It soon came to pass that his placement in the advanced training group was not for nothing; his ability to learn the ougi, the secret techniques of the school was astonishing, and his control over ki forms amazing. His control was such that he was capable of devising and utilizing his own techniques on the fly, combining his own creativity with the legendary evil-vanquishing attributes of his swordsmanship school.

He and the young heir, only six months separated in age, started their Pokémon adventure together. Traveling as partners, the two chose not to focus on earning badges, but on improving themselves and their Pokémon. General consensus around the dojo suspects that the two formed a closer relationship than training partners during their travels, fueled by the fact that they will neither confirm nor deny the rumors.

After several years journeying through Kanto and Johto, they returned to their training at the dojo. Another year or so later, Seno journeyed abroad to America, staying with the parents of his mother for the four years of study there. Despite being separated by thousands of miles, half a dozen time zones, and an ocean, he maintained a close relationship with Motoko, the pair writing each other frequently and keeping one another up-to-date on their activities.

With the cultural exchange program coming to an end, Seno returned to Japan, taking up the offer from Motoko to visit her at her home-away-from-Ecruteak, the Hinata apartments in Azalea Town. Despite the Hinata technically being a dormitory for girls, Seno was allowed to rent a room after Motoko vouched for him. The landlord being a childhood friend of his also helped in that regard. After several weeks staying there, the belligerent sexual tension between Keitaro and another tenant, Naru Narusegawa, had become too much for the swordsman to bear, and one evening he gave his old friend a talking-to before essentially forcing the man to confess to Naru at swordpoint. The days at the Hinata became far more peaceful after that, given the absence of the tension; this had the added benefit of giving Seno time and inclination to consider his own relationship with Motoko, which bore many similarities to that of Keitaro and Naru, notwithstanding the frequent violence.

This peace was not to last, however. One autumn evening, with the last light of the sun dying in the western sky, a twisted creature neither human nor Pokémon appeared at the Hinata, its killing intent clear as it sought to remove Mutsumi Otohime, a frequent visitor to the Hinata, from the game. Without a thought, Seno jumped into battle against the creature, joined by Motoko and Haruka. Victory was hard-won, the battle eventually drawing in all of the other tenants in some way or another, and resulting in moderate damage to the building. It was little more than a preview of events to come later, but more importantly, it was a watershed, marking the moment where a half dozen random schmucks living in an old inn came together as a group that would come to be known across Kanto and Johto as Kuro Arashi, or simply, the "Kuro crew". United in their newfound awareness of a great dark threat to the world, the Kuro crew vowed to become protectors of all mankind.

That was five years before the Saffron Event. In the time since then, much of Seno's time has been spent honing his craft, sharpening his blade and technique for the battles to come. In the meantime, there was plenty to keep the swordsman occupied, among them establishing an alliance with the far-off academy-city of Mahora. During Keitaro's trip abroad to America, Seno was at the forefront of the battles with Keitaro's step-sister, Kanako, concerning the future of the Hinata. Naturally, as he had worked so hard to put Keitaro and Naru together, he was very opposed to Kanako's thinly-veiled attempts to separate them--it didn't help that he'd never liked Kanako to begin with. When Keitaro finally returned at the height of the hostilities, things only got worse. The promise ring that the archaeologist had brought back for Naru accidentally fell into Kanako's hands at the cursed annex due to a proposal attempt mix-up. The annex, already a location where the barrier between the material world and the Astral Plane was weakened, resonated with Kanako's desires, and when Naru came to challenge Kanako, the spirits possessed the several members of the crew. Seno was one of the few that resisted, and fought alongside Naru through the 'boss rush' against the others. After freeing the others from the spirits' control, Seno stayed behind with them to fight the corrupted 'Annex Beast' while Naru went on ahead to face Kanako herself. Afterwards, Kanako recognized Naru's feelings, agreeing to step aside and let them be together, in the process joining the crew herself.

The years that passed since then were a largely-peaceful time of further preparation and life continuing on as normal. But now, the day that Seno has half-anticipated, half-dreaded has finally arrived. The Darkness has come, and the world will need Heroes to rise.

Seeing a Shinmei fight in that miko-type outfit isn't a big deal. That's just a Tuesday for us. Seeing a Shinmei roll in full armor? Well you're still lucky in that case because SEEING them means your ass isn't on their list. wrote:Regular Abilities______________________________________
└─Skills, professions, knowledge and talents.

Enhanced Perception (Reflexes): Superhuman reaction times and reflexes, acquired as a result of years of Shinmeiryu training and a close, almost-preternatural bond with his weapon allow Seno the ability to knock away any projectile attack that he is aware of, up to and including gunfire. This ability does not allow him to wade effortlessly into a storm of machine gun fire without taking any hits; he can at most deflect up to ten projectiles in any one action.

Shundo: Also known by the names "ground contractor" or "instant movement", it is an ability that allows Seno to cover distances up to forty feet in a direct line from where he is facing in an instant. He can actually pass through space occupied by another person or creature without either being physically affected; only an individual specifically-trained in martial arts can react to his movement in this manner.

Martial Abilities______________________________________
└─Weapon specializations and fighting styles.

Iaiken: Iaido (居合道 Iaidō or just Iai 居合) is a modern Japanese martial art associated with the smooth, controlled movements of drawing the sword from its scabbard or saya, striking or cutting an opponent, removing blood from the blade, and then replacing the sword in the scabbard in an extremely-rapid action.

├─Classification: Physical
├─Category: Fighting Style
└─Power Level: Master

Raizensoku: An iaijutsu strike in which Seno draws his blade, moves forward, and strikes outward in less than a second. He commonly tenses in preparation for the attack, but he is well-practiced enough to perform the strike from an upright position with his arms crossed in a seemingly-unready stance. He accomplishes the strike so fast that he leaves an afterimage of himself where he had been standing. This technique is only effective within ten feet, but within that range, this technique cannot be dodged or blocked. The only way to avoid Raizensoku is to be outside its range, or strike while he is preparing for the technique.

└─Power Level: Master

Shinmeiryu: Shinmeiryu (神鳴流 Shinmei-ryū), meaning "God's Cry School", is an ancient Japanese martial art with roots in Kendo. Shinmeiryu blends the sword technique and discipline of kendo with an additional, secret art of ki manipulation, for the ultimate goal of slaying demons and upholding honor and justice. The power of this fighting style is said to be able to divide the heavens and cleave mountains in half. One of the key tenants of Shinmeiryu is the ability to manipulate the living energy of one's own body, augmenting their physical strength or speed, or channeling into the numerous techniques of the style.

Techniques─┘ wrote:Hyakka Ryouran [百花繚乱 - Many Flowers Blooming in Profusion; Hiken]: Half of the damage dealt by this attack is considered slashing, the other half wind. This skill affects an area in front of the user ten feet wide and thirty feet deep. Anything caught in the AoE of this attack is likely to be knocked down, and any Flying type Pokémon or Pokémon with Levitate will lose their immunity to Ground-type attacks.

├─Classification: Physical
├─Category: Attack
└─Power Level: Expert

Ryuhazan: A species-specific strike that deals absurd damage to Dragon-type Pokémon and Pokémon in the dragon egg group, but is only a normal sword strike against any other targets.

├─Classification: Physical
├─Category: Attack
└─Power Level: Master

Zangaken [斬岩剣 - Rock-Splitting Sword; Ougi]: The first technique mastered by any student of Shinmeiryu, it is this technique that lends the school it's reputation for cleaving mountains asunder. Strikes against any object made of rock instantly shatter the target of this technique, and any Rock-type Pokémon will immediately faint.

├─Classification: Physical
├─Category: Attack
└─Power Level: Master

Zangaken Shishikokoro Rendan: This special double-tech attack can only be performed with Motoko. Motoko infuses her blade with ki, which spreads to Seno's sword(s) on contact. The pair will then make a total of four charging strikes at a single target, culminating with the couple driving their blades into the target at the same time.

├─Classification: Physical
├─Category: Attack
└─Power Level: Master

Zankūsen [斬空閃 - Air-Cutting Flash; Hiken]: The first of the 'Flash' type techniques, Zankūsen functions both used by a sword and used bare-handed. This technique releases a burst of ki in a 10' square radius around the user. Creatures of an alignment diametrically opposite that of the user take double damage.

├─Classification: Physical
├─Category: Attack
└─Power Level: Expert

Zankūshō San [斬空掌・散 - Air-Cutting Palm, Scatter; Ougi]: Similar in execution to Zankūsen, Zankūshō - San is a ki-release technique that fires a number of bullet-like ki projectiles at a number of targets within 10' of the user.

├─Classification: Physical
├─Category: Attack
└─Power Level: Expert

Zanmaken [斬魔剣 - Evil-Cutting Sword; Ougi]: Another initial technique, Zanmaken is a ranged ki attack that deals absurdly effective against anything with an evil alignment. Non-evil creatures and persons also receive considerable damage if struck, but evil creatures will almost certainly be slain.

├─Classification: Physical
├─Category: Attack
└─Power Level: Master

Zanmaken Ni-no-Tachi [斬魔剣・弐の太刀 - Evil Cutting Sword, Second Strike; Ougi]: This technique can only be used on a target that has an animate target between itself and the wielder (ie, if the target is standing behind a person, an undead, or a construct. This does not function on a target standing behind, say, a wall). The user targets the object in the target's path. A visible wave of ki energy passes through the intervening object and strikes the target, dealing double damage. However, this technique only affects creatures or objects with an evil alignment, and its use will be wasted, dealing no damage, on anything of any other alignment.

├─Classification: Physical
├─Category: Attack
└─Power Level: Expert

Zanmashō [斬魔掌・弐の太刀 - Evil-Cutting Palm; Ougi]: This technique requires melee contact with the target, either the target's person or the target's weapon. The target weapon or armor (if the target's body is struck) is destroyed as though shredded, burned, or flash-frozen and then shattered (take your pick). Supernatural items are not affected.

├─Classification: Physical
├─Category: Attack
└─Power Level: Expert

Zantetsusen [斬鉄閃 - Iron-Cutting Flash; Ougi]: This technique releases ki in a spiral fashion toward a single target, striking the victim three distinct times. It is absurdly-effective against Steel types, and not much nicer to anything not protected by armor.

├─Classification: Physical
├─Category: Attack
└─Power Level: Expert

Swordsmanship (Daisho): Seno's primary weapon set, a katana and wakazashi of superior craftsmanship, hand-forged during the 14th century in the Kanto province. These weapons, originally belonging to the Aoyama clan, transferred hands to the Nakakami clan shortly before the founding of Shinmeiryu, remaining in the family for generations, before finally being handed down to Seno. The enchanted weapons is said to house the spirit of an early warrior princess of the Aoyama clan (Shinaijou) who had been cursed into the form of a demon, and thereafter slain and freed by one of Seno's ancestors. The wakizashi, Kagetaku, is said to contain the spirit of her shinobi servant, honor-bound to serve the recognized wielder of Shinaijou. Due to the presence of the ancestor spirit, Shinaijou is considered an enchanted or intelligent weapon, and has the unique ability to detect honesty or dishonesty in a living being's actions or words around him, and also love in the same area. Kagetaku has the ability to allow him to summon the ninja into the world.

├─Classification: Physical

Tsuinryu: A rapid twin strike against two targets that are flanking Seno. Can only be used when flanked.

I think we've hit our episodic limit on fourth wall jokes. I might get in trouble if I squeeze any more in. wrote:A blur of black wood split the afternoon air, leaving a faint whistling sound, swallowed up by the steady, measured release of breath from behind the wooden blade. Its wielder turned in a smooth, practiced motion, blade rising above his head, before slicing back down, its motion a blur even to trained eyes, in a move that would open a standing man from shoulder to hip. He brought the wooden sword to his right, placing his left hand at his belt, where the scabbard of a real sword would be, then swept the wooden sword to the left, letting the wrapped hilt roll over his thumb to aim the tip back toward him, and neatly slid the sword through the open fingers of his left hand.

Letting out a slow, relaxing breath, he closed his hand around the wooden sword, his fingers brushing the hilt bindings, and turned to his left, looking out across the forests of Johto. The routine was pretty much the same as it was every day, and though he took it seriously to keep on top of his kata to ensure he was in top form, it was just boring. Things were peaceful around here, and though trouble was brewing over in Kanto and in far-off Unova, it wasn't like he could just wander off willy-nilly to go stick his nose into things. Somehow he'd wound up being classed amongst the elders of the school, looked up to by the young students, and had to maintain the reputation of the school.

Things were falling on sad times indeed if he was considered respectable.
