Odium [Male Golurk]: This golem-like Pokémon serves as Tanat's mount with its supersonic jet-like speed. Like most of Tanat's team of 'operatives', he acquired Golurk by dint of his mediumship, tracking the Pokémon down through word of mouth in regards to spirits. It is a brutish, large thing. Of not-inconsiderable physical might, this Golurk employs its power in the service of The Soulbringer as extra muscle.

Ability: Iron Fist
Move Pool: Drain Punch, Ice Punch, Fire Punch, Rest, Earthquake, Shadow Punch, Magnitude, Iron Defense, Mud Slap, Thunder Punch

Image
Despero [Female Lampent]: Originally a Litwick which had misjudged Tanat's Manifestation for a living being as a rookie mistake, Tanat captured the little candle and made use of its fire and lighting capabilities in earnest. At some point over its decades of servitude, it evolved into a Lampent, and helps its master gather soul energy to feed his Manifestation its lifespan.

Ability: Shadow Tag
Move Pool: Overheat, Minimize, Fire Spin, Confuse Ray, Night Shade, Hex, Heat Wave, Memento, Paint Split, Shadow Ball

Image
Dolor [Male Gengar]: Caught in the Spirit World after its thwarted attempt to ambush and consume Tanat's powerful but claimed soul. Cut down by Talatsu's edge and the personal blade of Tanat's trade, it was made servile and now fulfills its capacity as harrasser, spy, and saboteur. Its manic grin makes it clear that it should not be forgotten once battle is joined, bearing a twisted sort of dangerous appearance. It tends to spend its time haunting the shadows of its targets, feeding and collecting energy and information, and escaping through solid objects to quickly make a clean getaway.

Ability: [ability=levitate]
Move Pool: [attack=hypnosis], [attack=dream-eater], [attack=sludge-bomb], [attack=mean-look], [attack=spite], [attack=curse], [attack=hex], [attack=nightmare], [attack=night-shade], [attack=shadow-punch]

Image
Amuduat [Male Cofragius]: Amuduat came into Tanat's service by way of interrupting Tanat's extreme depressive brooding state after his unintentional brutal murder of the only person who he had ever managed to have a conversation with in a century. The sly Cofragius tried to grasp Solnedjakt and dart off with the immense weapon before Tanat could respond in his washed-out state. Unfortunately for Amuduat, Wraps intercepted its arms immediately, causing both mummy Pokémon to offensively wrap one another in ancient bandages until Tanat could beat the tanky platinum box down and capture it. Unknown to Amuduat and Wraps, it is the Ghost Pokémon result of Wraps' former master, whom Tanat had dispatched many years prior.

Ability: [ability=mummy]
Move Pool: [attack=astonish], [attack=scary-face], [attack=night-shade], [attack=disable], [attack=ominous-wind], [attack=curse], [attack=protect], [attack=iron-defense], [attack=mean-look], [attack=shadow-ball]

Image
Wraps [Female Ankheon]: A shambling, quiet creature. When in the living world, Ankheon seems as though amidst a fog, its trailing bandages the only mark of its passing as it remains out of sight, doing its best to maintain a state of nondetection. Its piercing little eyes can easily scar a human who locks gazes for too long, drawn in to its crushing emotional trauma. Tanat captured this quadrupedal mummy in a tomb, having heard its piteous cry only once while he was collecting a meal from the chamber's lingering occupant. The Ankheon did not resist capture or recruitment, and ceases to cry now that it has purpose and direction once again - however horrifying the work it is put to must be.

Ability: Mummy
Move Pool: Hex, Shadow Ball, Curse, Destiny Bond, Night Shade, Yawn, Heal Bell, Helping Hand, Work Up, Stored Power

Talatsu [Male Honedge]: Looking at this Honedge, one might be hard-pressed to place the fact it is actually a Honedge to begin with. It lacks its trademark sheath, and its blade has increased to just a touch over four feet long. The blade is thinner, yet appears to be sturdier just by looking at it. Its edges glimmer with wafts of ghostly smoke from time to time, given off in the baleful light of its blade. However, the most notable feature of this strange Pokémon is not its variation in appearance from others of its sort insomuch as the the sheer aura of malice and hunger permeating from it. The eye is clearly nothing like the docile orb of its counterparts or even that of a human eye - it roves, madly, and constantly displays varying emotions of anger or disinterest.

Those who witness it tend to call it The Dread Blade, and so has it been remembered through the path of history - a venerable and terrible thing spoken of in forgotten legends that has only recently been attached to the spirit of its possessor and unwilling host, Tanat Andbaerer. Talatsu is a ravenous consumer of souls, and refuses to let Tanat attempt to reinstate himself as a mortal or pass on to the next life until it has exploited Tanat's combat prowess and abilities to obtain the strongest soul it could reasonably stand to devour - and it's still not sure what that might be. Until such time as it has fed, Talatsu refuses to let go of Tanat's soul - and indeed the two cannot be parted by any normal means, as often as Tanat has attempted to get away from the ancient and insane spectre-blade.

The cloth-arm of Talatsu is a deep red, and is actually what Tanat seems to be using as a cape for his armor. Woe betide any mortal caught within its billowing fabrics, for their life will soon be drained in full if they do not quickly get free and away from its seven-foot reach. Talatsu can speak the common human tongues telepathically, and its voice is extremely condescending and full of spite. At times it will psychically distort its host's mind, forcing it to see regular scenes and regular people as hostile demon-like entities, provoking Tanat into murdering for its feast. It should be obvious that Talatsu is kind of a dick.

Ability: No Guard
Move Pool: Pursuit, Slash, Iron Defense, Night Slash, Sacred Sword, Autotomize, Retaliate, Swords Dance, Fury Cutter

Image
Shuppet [Varies]: Shuppet seem to flock to Tanat when he is growing increasingly angry or hateful. As he is always at least somewhat one of the two, a Shuppet tends to follow Tanat wherever he goes, flitting in and out of the shadows and between worlds. Sometimes it will come when called, or perform errands for Tanat when it is promised a meal of his negative emotions. The swarming extraneous Shuppets rarely ever realize Tanat is present, too busy gorging themselves on his towering emotional banquet to be of any help.
Image
Pawniard [Male]: As a boy, Tanat was presented with a locally-caught Pawniard, his dreams of becoming a heroic knight-like figure bolstered all the more with such a brave and sharp Pokémon like Pawniard at his side. As Tanat grew and took on his squireship, Pawniard stayed ever-faithful at his side, many times his only allowed company. The boy did not falter, and the Pokémon did not fault Tanat for not going off on some years-long whimsical journey in order to evolve Pawniard or make it part of some champion dream-team. In the end, as Tanat accepted his role as a fully-trained warrior, with more than a touch of his boyish romanticism lingering in some form of knighthood, Pawniard made the transition with Tanat into the ranks of the Guillotine Cross until Tanat's eventual death at the hands of his final challenge as a mortal. Pawniard stayed at the site of the sealing where its friend had disappeared into the Spirit World, until it too had passed from the world of the living. Unfortunately for the Pawniard, it was not destined to see Tanat again - for it had lived a clean life with few regrets, and Tanat's soul was cursed to stay behind by The Dread Blade.

Deep blue locks of hair, starting black at the top and lightening in cerulean hue to the tip of each strand. His pupils shine gold in the dark, the medium's proof of connection to the Spirit World, with a haunted look to each withdrawn orb - creating a terminally severe gaze unblinking. Tanat cuts a massive figure standing at six foot five, yet still managing to appear fairly trim and long of limb. His skin is a dusty pale, appearing and in truth cold to the touch, stretched around an enviable musculature.

He wears dark-grey dusty-looking loose clothing underneath plates of bone-white armor. A set of grinning skull spaulders, an abdominal plate, spine-plates, forearm-length gauntlets with reaching fingers rising from the metal. From time to time, the plates on his hips will display the faces of his most recent victims, frozen in the moment of acquisition.

In life, Tanat was quick to laugh and held a strong sense of moral justice. That's not to say he was a saint, or that many would agree with him on any number of topics, seemingly lack-a-daisical at times. He believed that if something was worth doing, it was worth doing properly - but otherwise you should be looking for something worth the effort. To many, he was a lazy layabout - and he preferred things that way, enjoying knowing that what he was doing was helping people without their knowledge.

In death, much of what made up Tanat is a memory. His sense of justice is no less than it was, but his morals have crumbled in the face of an all-consuming desire to return to his true flesh. He no longer seems to bear mirth, and rarely displays what could be considered emotion aside from an insurmountable anger. The former hero-turned-assassin spends what seems an eternity, contemplating the lives he takes for his own goals - wondering if it is worth the hopeful payoff. This leads to a very taciturn response should any bother speaking to him and in the rarer case of his making the effort to reply.

The Hetacroix were a well-to-do family of mixed English and Arabic descent living in the Sinnoh Region when the happy couple gave birth to their radiant little bundle of joy, Tanat Hetacroix. The family line hailed from a long line of merchants and opportunistic dealers, with the oddball popping up here and there in the tree. As a young child, Tanat began his schooling early - proving he was neither genius nor dullard. The boy had a tendancy to rush ahead when it was best to wait, but his studies reflected this mostly as success, since the result was more important than the equation in such cases.

Growing up, the exuberant youth became a favorite of those aforementioned oddballs in the family. While he learned much from his parents and their trade, he also listened to stories of great battles between Pokémon, amazing journeys through the wide world, harrowing tales of adventure and the impossible. He picked up a variety of ideas and the beginnings of skills to peak his active imagination. In fact, when he was old enough, a favorite uncle presented Tanat with a Pawniard, which immediately became Tanat's best friend and its knightly demeanor engendered the impressionable youth towards martial training in the knighthood's swordsmanship. He never went on a Pokémon journey, choosing instead a vocation more suited to sword and armor. During these years, Tanat began to see people who seemed to disappear shortly thereafter, or hear voices of those he could not find. Thinking himself touched, he spoke with an estranged aunt, something of a medicine woman amidst her crazy herbs and potions. With a bit of understanding and proof, Tanat was proclaimed to be coming into a rarely family trait of mediumship - something she herself was possessed of, or so her golden irises proclaimed.

He still picked up the family trade, as his parents willed it - though perhaps the most he took from the experience was his ability to read people. Older now, having passed his training, the strapping young man applied himself alongside his Pawniard in helpful (if somewhat silly and childish) heroics, quickly gaining a reputation in town and the surrounding areas. His swordsmanship and bond with his skilled Pawniard put both thieves and rampaging Pokémon in their place with overstated ease and perhaps a bit of glory-hounding, which the locals were either grateful or amused enough to give. In this manner did Tanat come across the beautiful Helena Moorcroft, whom in time he happily made his wife. Fully-grown, Tanat rarely engaged in silly games, but his skill was not the slightest rusty - always the first to leap to his feet and grasp his swordhilt should trouble arise nearby. Skill that caught the attention of others.

Tanat was contacted directly by figures who had as of then stripped themselves of identity, but were apparently quite well-informed on his own. Appealing to his sense of adventure and curiosity, Tanat warily agreed to meet with these people at a nearby temporary camp. There, they spoke of groups of people who eliminated problems across the world... be they individuals or other such groups, for the balance of power and safety of those who might be hurt if any one ideology grew too great in the world. After some nights to think it through, Tanat accepted their proposal to join their number - and despite not being what one might call built for stealth, the Hetacroix man began his training as an assassin, beginning with his runic brand of the Guild's symbol on his chest.

Now, Tanat had an odd sense of justice, this much was true. He very much believed in the idea that the ends justify the means. So long as he took lives in the name of the greater good, all was well. Likewise, so too was his inception into the Guild, and his acquiration of their skills. Tanat learned evasion, trickery, illusion, and despite his dress and size, stealth. Where he seemed mostly mediocre in common pursuits in life, Tanat Hetacroix all but burst into the very image of progress when he had a blade in his hand a goal before him. Upon his acceptance into a functioning cell, he was gifted the armor he has worn ever since. No longer some flashy breastplate affair, he also replaced his simple and sturdy longsword with what appeared to be two interlocking bastard swords - which when combined created a fullblade so massive that even his impressive physique required both hands to wield - each half of the blade bore an obsidian core capped in several thick inches of metal. Added to his repertoire was the acceptance of his mediumship, and honing of this ability by trial and error - oftentimes using the speech of the dead in order to locate a target, or to kill a target who bore important information and then demand that information from their more pliant spirit.

He managed to gain a bit of a reputation for himself. Obviously none who had seen his face had been allowed to live - but nonetheless there were quiet rumours of a killing apparition known as "The Sunset Hunter". In these murmurings, it was said that the apparition would begin its hunt just as the sun grew weary of its time in the heavens - and that before the moon rose, the unfortunate victim's last drop of blood would be shed. Naturally, Tanat loved this little bit about his work, and started to conform to it. Due to the close proximity in which his work put him with Death and its aspects, Tanat's own mediumship had become fully realized, his irises a blazing gold to denote that interesting little fact. He continued his day job as a successful merchant and sometimes-bodyguard, and would also be called upon by locals to investigate potentially paranormal oddities. The times it became evident that such was the case, he would guide lost souls on to Arceus' afterlife. The times they happened to be violent, he would best the poltregeist and then effectively throw it at Arceus' open invitation.

Sadly, despite the dangerous double-life as a bodyguard by day and assassin by sundown, his end came due to the relatively harmless side job as an exorcist. Responding to an out-of-town call for aid, he approached a monstrous spirit that was in the process of manifesting itself - evidenced by the felled trees and clawed-up turf. Tanat immediately went to battle, finding even his not-inconsiderable power over-matched easily. Unbeknownst to the Sunset Hunter, the bestial poltergeist had already fed well on the souls of the humans and Pokémon it had slain. With Pawniard at his side, Tanat did not give up - their battle raging with the bloodied spirit as it attempted to fully manifest itself. In the end, the conflicted last from sunset to dawn, finding the spirit banished in Tanat's final act, using the blood from his flayed heart to power the exorcism rite. His body was trapped with the spirit in the banishment, Tanat too close to death himself to escape the confines of the rite, and he landed in the Spirit World as a dying mortal.

With dizzying speed, he felt a cloth wrap itself around his torso, as if to stem the bloodflow. He'd been about to thank this good Samaritan with his last breath until he felt his life drawn from him and into the cloth itself. In the end, he found himself staring up into a single, condescending eye perched above a long blade - and something in that meeting of eyes gold with fiery blood-red made unholy union. Tanat's cold, apparently lifeless corpse stood at his command, and he looked out through his own eyes as though a stranger. So did Tanat Hetacroix die, and in his unwilling bond with the spirit-drinking Honedge that called itself Talatsu - was Tanat Andbaerer born. Over the next two centuries of his unlife, Tanat would often appear at the scene of murders and accidents in a hazy form reminiscent of his old body, waiting outside hospitals with Ghost-type Pokémon to feast on the recently-freed souls from the dead through what meager portions Talatsu spared him. Over time, he learned how to Manifest properly, and Talatsu's mind-warping presence drove Tanat and his massive black sword to kill in order to sustain that presence in the mortal world. With Solnedjakt and Talatsu crossed over his back, his face cast in shade but for that one unearthly-luminescent golden eye staring back out wistfully at the world, he took on a new legend akin to something like a shinigami of folk-lore. Where there was death, there was always a chance to find Thanatos the Soulbringer with his swords bloody, or in the company of ghosts feeding on the spiritual remains. To this day, Tanat seeks to gather enough soul-energy to return himself to his former life, however fruitless - or a soul strong enough to quench Talatsu's thirst, freeing his soul for Arceus' judgement and the chance to move on from this nightmare he found himself trapped within.

Martial Abilities______________________________________
└-Weapon specializations and fighting styles.

Swordsmanship (Fullblade): Having mastered his rather unique black-bladed weapon and a number of two-handed blades, Tanat is an extremely competent and skillful swordsman. His style takes advantage of his evasive skill to dodge attacks while using the reach and bulk of his blade(s) to redirect and attack at the same time.

├─Category: Weapon Proficiency
└─Power Level: Master

Supernatural Abilities_________________________________
└-Psychic, aura or astral abilities.

Cross-Dimensional Awareness: Tanat, while in the mortal world, can receive impressions of activity in the Spirit World. However, due to the temporal discrepancy between the Spirit World and mortal world, he cannot perceive the mortal world while within the Spirit World.

├─Classification: Psychic
├─Category: Cross-Dimensional Awareness
└─Power Level: Inherent

Crossing Over: An ability shared with standard human-ghosts and Ghost-type Pokémon, the ability to enter or exit from the Spirit World. However, while time is at a near-standstill in the Spirit World, time in the mortal world continues normally. Upon exiting again, one finds time has moved a great deal quicker than it had for them while in the realm of spirits. As such, this cannot be used mid-combat as a way of dodging attacks, as re-entering the Spirit World effectively removes one from combat for at the least several hours. Ghost-type Pokémon do not seem to suffer from the time difference.

├─Classification: Astral
├─Category: Manifestation
└─Power Level: Inherent

Mediumship: Tanat is able to see and communicate with retained spirits in the mortal world as easily as one speaks to another person. Likewise is he able to see and communicate with those spirits who are brought to the Spirit World while he is present within it.

├─Classification: Psychic
├─Category: Mediumship
└─Power Level: Inherent

Soul-Tethers: Ghosts are often unable to interact with pokeballs, or at least can't often keep said pokeballs with them. Instead, a ghost can pull a small part of a defeated Ghost Pokémon's soul out from it and attach it to their own, creating a multi-dimensional leash so that the ghost's Pokémon are technically always with them on the other side.

├─Classification: Astral
├─Category: Manifestation
└─Power Level: Inherent

Elemental Abilities____________________________________
└-Powers from a Ghost Plate.

Shadeblade: Tanat creates a shadow copy of his sword. He can either send the sword through shadows to attack his opponent, or attack with it, creating a double-hit. The shadow will strike first, typically blowing open defenses so that the real sword can land its own blow. Based on [Shadow Sneak], and lacking creativity enough for a better name for his own technique.

├─Classification: Elemental
├─Category: Physical
└─Power Level: Novice

Unique Abilities_______________________________________
└-Powers unique to the character.

Incarnation: In order to create and maintain a physical body in the mortal world, Tanat must consume life-force or souls in part or full. Likewise does his demanding Honedge, Talatsu, demand such sustenance. Tanat is actually incapable of drawing on life energy himself, and relies on his Ghost-type Pokémon to do so for him, as a number of Ghost-type Pokémon possess the ability to collect life force/souls naturally. A soul possesses the most life energy when torn from its host, but directly after death is when it is easiest to collect.
