Indiana [Male Furret]We do not follow maps to buried treasure and "X" never, ever marks the spot.
Indiana has been with Grant for many long years, since he began his schooling at Olivine as a child. Indiana is adventuresome and spares no curiosity when it comes to his and Grant's work. He abhors being in his Poké Ball and constantly rides on Grant's shoulder, no matter where they are. Grant hardly ever uses the Pokémon for battles and Indiana prefers it that way, as he takes a certain enjoyment in the work Grant does rather than being used for competitive fights.
—Befriended in Olivine City.

Ability: Keen Eye
Nature: Impish
Move Pool: Aqua Tail, Quick Attack, Return, Shadow Claw, Trick

Connery [Male Granbull]There is nothing like a challenge to bring out the best in man.
Grant's Granbull, Connery, once belonged to Richelieu, Grant's father. Richelieu gave him to Grant when Grant was first leaving Johto to explore Hoenn. He's the old gun of the party and is quite powerful in comparison to Indiana and some of Grant's other Pokémon. Connery is suave, laid back and a bit gruff. His ears are notched a bit from past battles. When Grant does fight on the rare occasion, it's usually Connery that Grant sends out first.
—Received in Olivine City from Richelieu Smithson.

Ability: Intimidate
Nature: Brave
Move Pool: Body Slam, Crunch, Close Combat, Earthquake, Facade, Heal Bell, Protect, Return, Thunder Wave, Toxic

Image
Sparrow [Male Flygon]You seem somewhat familiar. Have I threatened you before?
This Flygon is the clown of Grant's party, and he has even been known to run from battle at times. Sparrow is always looking for a way to benefit himself, whether it even be just an extra Poffin. There are times, however, when Sparrow will show his deep down true colors and fight for all his worth for the right cause. Sparrow's eyes are violet instead of the norm. Grant often uses the Flygon to soar from one place to the next.
—Captured on Route 111.

Ability: Levitate
Nature: Quirky
Move Pool: Draco Meteor, Dragon Claw, Earthquake, Fire Blast, Outrage, Roost, Stone Edge, Substitute, Toxic, U-Turn

Image
Pahn [Female Lapras]The ocean is my hair and the stars are my eyes.
Grant captured Pahn in Kanto, on the shores of Fuchsia City. She offers him a way of travel on the seas and she has been his constant way of getting around in the Orange Islands. She's calm and patient, except when Sparrow bothers her, and she's known to almost coddle Grant as if she were his mother. Similar to Indiana, Pahn doesn't often see the battlefield. She's more of a utility for Grant to get around than a fighter.
—Captured on Route 19.

Ability: Water Absorb
Nature: Calm
Move Pool: Hydro Pump, Ice Beam, Surf, Thunderbolt, Toxic

Image
Solo [Male Kabutops]You know, sometimes I amaze even myself.
Solo is the loose cannon and the hotshot. Grant revived Solo from a fossil he dug up in Oreburgh and raised Solo from a Kabuto. He is great friends with Indiana and is also one of Grant's better fighters. He's especially quick in battle, though sometimes he messes up and gets himself in trouble and has to turn about face. One thing is for sure, though, while he may be a bit of a scoundrel, he truly does have a heart of gold.
—Revived in Oreburgh City.

Ability: Swift Swim
Nature: Rash
Move Pool: Aqua Jet, Brick Break, Earth Power, Iron Defense, Night Slash, Stealth Rock, Stone Edge, Swords Dance, Waterfall, X-Scissor

Erised [Bronzor]I show not your face but your heart's desire.
The newest addition to Grant's team is his Bronzor. He captured the Pokémon in Mt. Coronet. Erised is still very young in comparison to the rest of Grant's team and isn't very good a battling yet, but Erised has a great interest in helping Grant with his work. The Bronzor hopes to one day evolve, but isn't yet sure if it should.
—Captured in Mt. Coronet.

Ability: Synchronize
Nature: Mild
Move Pool: Confusion, Extrasensory, Hypnosis, Safeguard, Tackle

Consider the past and you shall know the future. wrote:Grant stands roughly six feet even. His hair is a dark brown color and he has hazel eyes, much like his father. He's broad shouldered and he has a strong, heavy jaw line. He's rather built, as he spends much of his time outdoors and digging in ruin sites... and very little of it wallowing away in towns.

Outfit-wise he wears a black tank top under his brown vest, which always remains open and is adorned with many pockets. His pants are also brown and are tattered at the knees and lower legs from all his work in the field. His hiking boots are slate black. On his back is a large travel pack, big enough to carry most of his archeology gear, and then some, and his sleeping bag; both are dark blue. And on his head he wears a wide brimmed hat the same color as his pants and vest with a black band around it. Tucked into the band around the hat is a Swellow feather, which once belonged to Aki, the Swellow he gave to his younger brother.

Take time to deliberate; but when the time for action arrives... stop thinking and go in. wrote:Grant is very well mannered, though his time on the road has roughened him up a bit and he can be a bit of a joker. He's calm, patient and very focused for an individual. He's just as likely to pass you by, however, than he is to make friends with you, as it depends on how you treat his profession. He is extremely passionate about history, ruins, fossils and the past. Anything remotely related to them draws him like a Combee to honey and it's quite hard to tear him away.

He has very little anger in him and knows how to keep his cool when someone pisses him off. He'd rather solve problems eloquently than blow his top, unlike his younger brother, Darien. Grant thinks very highly of Darien, though he knows his younger brother dislikes him for the most part. Grant keeps his distance from the younger boy out of respect of the boy's wishes.

Name: Richelieu Smithson — The size of your success is measured by the strength of your desire; the size of your dream; and how you handle disappointment along the way.
Age: 57
Gender: Male
Relationship: Father
Trainer Orientation: Lawful Good
Trainer Class: Veteran

Richelieu is, in short, very old fashioned. He believes and values both honesty and chivalry and raised both his boys with the same set of values. While he is stern, however, he is not heartless, and he cares for and pushes his boys to be their best.
Image
Name: Clarisse Smithson — There is always music amongst the trees in the garden, but our hearts must be very quiet to hear it.
Age: 54
Gender: Female
Relationship: Mother
Trainer Orientation: Neutral Good
Trainer Class: Socialite

In contrast to Richelieu's sternness, Clarisse is quiet and patient with her children, but would still see them grown wings and soar. She has a soft spot for doting upon them, but manages to not over do it somehow. Clarisse is fond of windy days.

Those whom we call ancients were really new in everything. wrote:Ever since he was a young boy, the past has fascinated Grant. Growing up in Olivine City, however, meant that little of the ruins and fossils of the world were around him. Richelieu, however, took interest in his son's growing obsession and traveled with his young son to the Ruins of Alph. It was there that Grant became even more enamored with the world of ages past, and he decided to become an archeologist and to study the Unown and history in general.

When he was eleven, he met Indiana. The then Sentret was playing around in the Ruins on one of Grant's visits and followed the boy and his father all the way back to Olivine City. Once there, the Sentret clambered onto Grant's shoulder and has practically never left the perch since. All throughout Grant's years in school, Indiana had been a constant companion. When he graduated and left to attend the university at Ecruteak, Indiana was with him.

He graduated early from Ecruteak University with a degree in Archeology and a minor in History. Then he began to explore the ruins of the world. Before he left, however, Richelieu gifted him with Connery. It was at this time that the rift between Darien and Grant expanded. Darien, who had not yet been able to leave home, had grown jealous of Grant. Grant wrongly teased him about it and he has regretted the mistake ever since. Darien has never really forgiven him about it and Richelieu's slight favoritism between the boys fueled Darien's dislike of Grant.

Nevertheless, Grant left for Hoenn shortly afterwards and was never able to have the time to mend his relationship with his brother. In Hoenn, Grant studied around Route 111 and the Mirage Tower. There he was pestered by a mischievous Vibrava, who he came to capture and name Sparrow. He spent around a year and a half in the tropical region of Hoenn and during that time he also captured a Taillow, which he named Aki. Aki would eventually be gifted to Darien and, though Grant has not spoken to his younger brother since giving him the Taillow, he hoped that the Pokémon mended their relationship, if only a little.

Finishing his studies in Hoenn, he ventured to Kanto to explore the region for other ruins and fossils. In Fuchsia, he captured Pahn. Finally, he would travel to Sinnoh, where he would find his first Dome Fossil, which evolved into Solo. He would then explore the ruins of Sinnoh, as well as Mt. Coronet, where he captured Erised.

He spent more time in Sinnoh than he had in any region, but finally, once he was certain he had explored the history of Sinnoh to its fullest, he left the colder lands for warmer regions once more: the Orange Islands. On his way to the Orange Islands, he happened to become friends with a young girl named Rylee, who was just setting out around her homeland. Both sharing a great interest in history, Rylee and Grant have decided to travel the Orange Islands together.

The past is a foreign country; they do things differently there. wrote:Rylee stretched her legs out and her arms up, flopping her body at a strange angle on the couch. Grant just chuckled and shook his head. "So, what are our plans?" he asked as Indiana, his Furret, skittered over from behind the couch to take his customary place on Grant's shoulder. The man rose his hand to tickle under the creature's chin lightly. Indiana have a hum of satisfaction at the action.

The girl's lips spread into a smile at Grant's question. "Got tired of it here already? For someone who insisted on spending days around the reefs left where Fairchild was... you sure want to move on swiftly."

Grant snorted, "Fairchild was my reason for visiting Orange, that was different entirely."

Rylee laughed and then glanced to the outside window as she downed the last of her iced tea. "Well. We could see if I could catch another battle and then get the next ferry out of here. Sound like a plan?"

"Certainly does."

With that, it was only a minute or so before the duo was ready to leave. Rylee swung her satchel over her shoulder, while Grant's large hiking backpack swung onto his back. Indiana adjusted himself to rest on the top of it. Grant tugged at the brim of his hat and then watched as Rylee beckoned to Rogue, the Pikan Scyther she had picked up.

"Walking or no, Rogue?"

The bug's wings buzzed indignantly as he stood up and followed the duo. Rylee giggled at him and then but the two humans and the two Pokémon set out from the little café they had been sitting at, heading towards the beach and the docks further along.
