Pan [Male Pangoro]: Maori captured Pan while she was still young, finding Pan the most adorable thing she had ever seen, even though he didn't want to be seen as cute, and would have much rather been tough and cool looking. Pan evolved into a Pangoro after a fight with members of a gang after some bad trash-talking in order to come to Maori's rescue. He is now Maori's go to guy for whenever she needs a nice big intimidating Pokémon to back her up... and he can back his bark with bite.
Image
Sy [Female Espurr]: Sy was Maori's second Pokémon, having once again fallen victim to a Pokémon's cuteness. She caught her while it was absently staring out into a lake. Ever since, it's remained a quiet little Pokémon, which Maori doesn't really know how to deal with. She tends to just leave Sy to whatever she wants to do... which is usually just observing everything around quietly. However, what Maori is unaware of, is that Sy holds a lot of psychic potential inside it's quiet meditative mind, and often silently manipulates things to Maori's favor without her even realizing.

Zip [Rotom]: Maori found Zip while searching around in the Lost Hotel. She had heard rumors of odd groups of people walking in and out of the abandoned ruins of the hotel, as well as hearing about strange paranormal occurrences that go on inside, though she just thought that was the group's false rumors to keep strangers out. Once she was in the hotel, Zip began messing with her electronics. Once she realized it was rotom doing this, she quickly lured it into her phone, and then closed it up in her rubber phone case, before running out of the Lost Hotel, and into the woods isolated from electronics. There, she went ahead and caught the zippy little Pokémon.
Image
Camo [Male Mothim]: Camo was an accident. Maori actually meant to catch a different Pokémon entirely, but didn't realize that a Burmy was sitting in the shrubbery camouflaged by leaves, hiding the Pokémon she had actually intended to capture. After this mistake, Maori was a bit upset with Burmy, but decided to keep him, and named him Camo. Ever since, she raised Camo up until it one day evolved. Once evolution made Camo a lot more mobile, he got to show off just how clever he actually is, ending up in the more utility role, providing whatever tact Maori might need to get out of sticky situations, or solve a problem. During Maori's travels, she often took to teaching Camo different tricks, and TMs, which is now one of Camo's favorite pastimes.

Maori has dark shoulder-length hair, light skin, and faded, almost metallic, blue colored eyes. She is also relatively short, standing at about 5'3'' (160 cm) tall. She also has a very slim figure, being pretty athletic. Lacking the more "womanly" features, she has often been mistaken for a boy, which she eventually just got used too. There is a lot more to her than physical appearance, as she tends to be a bit flashy in public at times. Most of the time, she acts almost impulsively, never really stopping to think to much about what she is doing, her emotions are almost always apparent, either by her expression, or by way of body movement.

Maori's clothes are usually suited to be comfortable, yet she also likes to wear them in outfits that look good. Causally, she likes to wear sweatshirts, and jeans. Often times she wears guy's clothing which doesn't exactly help her lack of "womanly" appeal, though that never bothers her. When she has plans to go out, and wants to dress up a bit more, she usually goes with some form of light top, with a jacket, and shorts, often complementing the outfit with a hat, as being native to Kalos she knows how to dress nicely when she wants to.

Moari is the typical curious detective types, yet lacks the over the top conclusive and deductive skills most detectives seem to have in the movies. She simply just gets into trouble trying to figure things out her own ways. Maori seems to have a mental switch in her head that she likes to flip whenever she is in "detective mode", she puts forwards a lot more thinking, than action, and is a bit more meticulous, however as her usual self, she is very free-spirited, not one to take notice of other's judgment, or really care at all about what other's think of her, as she is very expressive, and lively. Her emotions are usually never bottled up, and is often what flips her "detective mode" off in most situations. As she says, her one weakness are "extremely cute" things.

On a more deeper level, Maori has had a life of some conflict, always seeming to bump into the wrong people, at the wrong times, and making it out intact by the skin of her teeth, and Pan's strength helps of course. Maori is simply the person who would run out of a crowd to save a child from a burning building, falling from the sky, into the ocean where the victim could drown if she didn't do anything. Having this strong sense of morality, or the "greater good" aspect is often what gets her into deep trouble, however that only seems to push her more into her ways, rather than deter her.

Maori was born in Kalos, between an unmarried couple, Makoto, and Kurimi. A bit after Maori was born, her parents had gotten married, and settled in a small apartment in Lumiose City, where Maori grew up for a little while. She would only remember a few years living her, going to babysitters, different parks in the city, and remembering the tall Lumiose Tower in the middle of the city. Eventually her and her parents moved up to Laverre city, having saved up enough money to buy a proper house, and her father having landed a position in the Laverre police force.

A Maori grew up pretty normally for a while, with schoolwork, some friends, and the occasional class bully. Eventually, like a lot of kids she took an interest in what her parents did every day. Her mother was a librarian, and her father was slowly working up the ranks in the local city police. While she didn't always have too much time to spend with her dad, when she did she always bothered him about stories, and "would it be illegal if" questions. Her mother always managed to get some detective books for Maori to read, many of them favorites of her mother's as well. With this upbringing, but lack in actual legal knowledge, Maori simply developed a strong and solid morality and integrity. Her dad even started bringing her along to his police training he had to do occasionally. Maori got to join in on some of the exercises ("modified for her age, and stature of course") but they wouldn't ever let her shoot a gun for SOME reason... This became a somewhat regular thing, as it was one of the few times Maori had a whole day with her dad.

As she grew up, she often got picked on at school, as she really enjoyed "nerdy" subjects like science and math. Many of times she's been taunted, being called a boy because she liked to have her hair cut short. (Whenever she let her hair get long, it always tangles up in knots 'somehow'). Eventually she figured out ways to work around the taunts. She just simply stopped caring, and when she did, things got easier, and she shot off into her own world. She began freely standing up for what was right, never letting a classmate get picked on, and often just absorbing all the bullying herself instead. She also began acting more and more like the detectives from the books she was reading about, always trying to be the first one to come to the conclusion of a problem, and a lot of times she did.

Eventually, kids in her class began getting their first Pokémon, and she loved playing with the really cute ones (or more like, holding, carrying, and snuggling them occasionally against their wills). Maori starting really wanting a Pokémon of her own, after all the detectives in the stories also had Pokémon to assist them in their spelunking. Maori was able to convince her parents to give her a Poké Ball, and while they expected her to break it rather than succeed in catching a Pokémon, she ended up befriending a pancham that lived out in the woods, making sure that the pancham was completely comfortable with her before trying to catch him.

Growing up in Lavverre, it was only inevitable before people began spreading rumors of the Lost Hotel in the nearby woods. Ghosts stories, and stories about kids making gangs and hiding out in the old abandoned hallways. Curious, and confident, Maori went ahead and snuck into the old lost hotel. Maori ended up coming across a Poké Ball that someone must have dropped, picking it up, Maori released the Pokémon inside, which was a pawniard. "Seems that your trainer lost you, do you think you can find them?" She asked the Pokémon, who nodded, and began walking down the hallway. Almost right away she found a room where a group of "gang" members were emptying their backpacks of things that seemed to have all come from a nearby store Maori has been to a few times. Maori returned the pawinard into it's Poké Ball, and slipped the ball into her pocket. One of the people had said something along the lines of: "Didn't get as much last time though." Which tipped Maori off that the items had been stolen. A smile had grown across Moari's face, a really big obnoxious one, as she stepped completely into the doorway, right in front of the group, and took a picture of the scene with her phone. "Busted!" Maori shouted, on the verge of laughter, as she had discovered her first real criminal case. Although soon Maori was running for her life, weaving in and around teenage punks. She never fought before, but she was slippery. However, the teenager punks blocked her off at the entrance, when suddenly Pan had burst out of his Poké Ball, diving right at the group, "Pan!" Maori cried out, as two of their Pokémon piled onto Pan. Pan was the most stubborn, but protective Pokémon Maori knew, and Pan simply had to get stronger to protect Maori, so that's what happened, evolving into a Pangoro, and really started winning the fight to Maori's amazement. Sure, Pan wasn't small and holdable now, but he was still cute, and now much more huggable. Before leaving the Lost Hotel, Maori dropped the Poké Ball containing the pawniard onto one of the teenager's heads. "I wish it had a better trainer, but I'm no thief." She said, walking out of the hotel. Later she learned she had the pawniard to thank for Pan being able to evolve.

Maori had shown the picture to her dad later, and ended up getting chastised for having been so reckless and walking straight into danger. She was quick to argue back that that's exactly what he does for a living, which while true, only made him more upset. These kinds of arguments became more and more common as Maori grew up, having even gone BACK to the Lost Hotel somewhat to spite him, somewhat to figure out some other rumors she had been hearing.

Over time, Maori added to her collection of Pokémon, having now included Sy, having caught her while walking through the woods with Pan. Zip, which she had found during her second venture into the Lost Hotel, and Camo, which was a total accident, but she grew to love a lot. As Maori's argument with her dad continued, she became more and more aware that he didn't want her to take risks, or help the community in her way, which he called reckless, careless, and that she was just too stubborn and naive. Maori just thought he was a big hypocrite. This relationship ended up deterring her from wanting to go into the law-force, but at the same time made her more devoted to the things she did do. She eventually came to the conclusion that soon she would leave to become a Pokémon Trainer, where no one would be able to stop her.

Till one day, Maori was up to her mischief, following two men who were walking around the Poké Ball factory for some reason. The two began fiddling with a lock on an old looking side-door to the factory, and eventually they managed to force it open. Maori slipped in a ways behind them, but it turns out they had been waiting to jump on her as she entered. "What are you doing?" One of them asked, and through a bit of an intimidating and terrifying encounter, Maori ended up completely unnerved and had a looming feeling that she was out of her league, as they had ended up figuring out who she was, and threatening that they would hurt her parents if she told anyone.

After a few weeks of paranoia, Maori noticed a change in her dad's attitude. The arguments they had became less out of anger, and more out of desperation, and he seemed to be up later at night, looking over emails as if he was afraid of what might appear in his inbox. She knew something was wrong, but she couldn't talk about it... just the other day she had seen one of the men from before walking down her street... She was rattled, and now so was her father. Something was going on, and she simply couldn't keep living in this fear. Eventually she left home, explaining that she was going off on a journey. Her father seemed worried, but glad to get her out of this city.

"You thought I wouldn't have heard you guys breaking in, thumping around just down the hall? What are you thinking?" Said a deep husky voice right into her ear. The man quickly jerked her around to face her Ariados, and Toxin had just realized the man also had a knife in his hand. He must have waited just around the corned of the hall to get the drop on them when he figured out what was going on. Ariados didn't want to make a move, and risk the guy stabbing Toxin. "Now, now, you disgusting bug, you're going to sit there quietly while I go ahead and call some backup to take you guys in for a bit of... interrogation." the man explained. However Ariados wasn't stupid, and it sprayed a web at the guy's knife-hand. "No you don't!" the man yelled, as he pressed a web-covered knife into her. The web had covered the edge, dulling it to the point it didn't slice into her, but it still jabbed her pretty hard, and broke skin. No-where near as life-threatening as it would've been however. That simple jab was enough to spark Toxin into action, as she realized he couldn't really harm her any longer. She drove her heel into the guy's knee, followed by ramming her head into his nose, and finishing off by quickly bumping her rear into his gut, giving her enough leverage to throw him over her shoulder onto the floor. The web-wadded knife flipped out of his hand. Toxin quickly dropped her foot into the guy's face, putting him under. "ooooh, yea that's a broken nose right there... I hope he didn't bleed in my hair." Toxin grimaced as she pulled out the flashdrive, and made her way back into the hallway. Ariados behind her was carrying the small bundle of prints wrapped to it's large tail with thread. They made their way back out the window, and up to the roof, Toxin noticed that the guy they left in the printing room, must have knocked himself out while he was thrashing around.
