Tern [Male Pidgeot]Wide open spaces and skies to soar in.
Tern has been Vincent's long time companion ever since Vincent found the bird as a small injured Pidgey. Cradling the bird, he took the small creature home and mended Tern's broken wing. While the wing was healing, Vincent and Tern got to know one another, and, when the time came for Tern to be returned to the wild, Tern would not leave. Deciding to stay with Vincent, Tern was never put into a Poké Ball because of his father's ways as a Ranger. Tern is very protective of Vincent and is also very seasoned and talented for a Pidgeot.
—Befriended in the Outback.

Ability: Keen Eye
Nature: Relaxed
Move Pool: Aerial Ace, Brave Bird, Double-Edge, Hidden Power (Ground), Mirror Move, Quick Attack, Return, Steel Wing, Substitute, Thief

Roo [Female Raichu]Where the crows fly backwards.
Vincent met Roo as a Pichu when him and Tern were exploring a ravine in the surrounding outlands around Alice Springs. Roo happened to be caught in a poacher's trap. When returning home, Vincent gave Roo to Melani as a companion. Melani and Roo grew very close, almost inseparable, until Melani's death. When Melani died, Roo joined Vincent.
—Befriended in Alice Springs.

Ability: Static
Nature: Quirky
Move Pool: Charm, Encore, Focus Punch, Hidden Power (Grass), Nasty Plot, Reversal, Substitute, Thunder Wave, Thunderbolt, Volt Tackle

Coalo [Male Torkoal]Hotter'n a skillet under the midday sun.
The newest of Vince's companions, Coalo is a baby Torkoal that he rescued from the fate of being crushed as an egg. He happened upon two boys aiming to destroy the unborn Pokémon in an alleyway. Rescuing the egg and turning the boys in, Vincent took care of Coalo until he hatched. Now the small Torkoal typically rides around in a backpack or on Tern's back. Coalo is very curious and energetic for a Torkoal.
—Hatched in Violet City.

Ability: White Smoke
Nature: Hasty
Move Pool: Amnesia, Flamethrower, Iron Defesne, Rest, Toxic

That's jus' stiff cheese. wrote:Vincent stands at six feet, two inches tall with a well toned build with broad shoulders. His skin is tanned from being out in the sun. Vincent's hair is a dirty blond that falls down to his mid-back, though he often keeps it pulled back in a loose ponytail. His eyes are a striking blue.

Feature-wise, Vincent's nose bears a long scar that runs under his right eye. He is partially blind in that eye and has trouble perceiving depth because of it. He also bear scaring from burns up his right arm, which he generally keeps wrapped up.

As for clothing, Vincent usually doesn't wear the generic Ranger garb. Instead, he prefers loose button down shirts (which he doesn't usually button up all the way) and under this he either wears a light tank or nothing at all. He will sometimes wear a tanned faux-leather jacket over this button down when the colder weathers call for it. On his legs he just wears generic jeans, light in wash and most definitely worn down from travel and work with frayed hems. He also wears a pair of work boots.

For accessories, Vincent's belt adorns his waist and it holds a pouch that he keeps all his gear in and another pouch that can hold his Styler when it's not in use. Vincent also wears two necklaces. One is a cowrie shell and hemp necklace that his late girlfriend Melani made for him and another is a black pearl that his brother gave him. Vincent is also fond of wearing gloves, generally the fingerless kind, and faux-leather or hemp bracelets.

Chill out and stay cool. wrote:Vincent is a very laid back individual and he typically doesn't let anything bother him. He is both calm and collected... and almost a bit suave to go with that, too. This Aussie's outlook on life is that things can only get so bad before they have to get better again. Even when he's feeling down, he tries to look at how much better things can get from that point.

While Vincent is laid back, he also takes his job seriously. He is never one to undervalue a person or to assume things can't get done without hard, hard work. He will try his best at any job and he's actually willing to do as much grunt work as some of the lower ranked Rangers.

When Vincent does get upset, he's more one to bottle it up and not show it to people. He's not afraid to cry, but he is afraid to cry in front of other people. He'd rather retreat to his quarters on base and let his emotions overflow there. As for getting angry, it does happen. He is human, after all. When he gets angry, he can be all kinds of spit and venom.

Name: Terran La'el — Don't be afraid of th'night, kid. Jus' look fer all th'stars.
Age: 47 (Deceased)
Gender: Male
Relationship: Father
Trainer Orientation: Lawful Good
Trainer Class: Ranger

Terran might have been a big influence on Vincent had the man not passed away when Vincent was only six. Before he died, Terran did actually try his best to teach Vincent the good of nature and the world around him. Terran truly loved both his sons and things might have been different has he not died.
Image
Name: Roxanne La'el — Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
Age: 44 (Deceased)
Gender: Female
Relationship: Mother
Trainer Orientation: Neutral Good
Trainer Class: Tour Guide

Roxanne also passed away when Vincent was only six. Both she and her husband were killed in a car wreck. Vincent's mother was as caring as his father was, and she also tried to impart all the useful love and knowledge she could upon her sons.

A total three-sixty. wrote:Vaniel La'el was born to Terran and Roxanne in Alice Springs in the center of the Australian area. He grew up exploring the cracks and crevices of the area around him with his younger brother, Vincent. The two brothers were actually quite close in their young age... even if then, so early on, Vaniel showed a tendency to control Vincent's actions and choices. (Early examples include telling the boy what to spend his allowance on, what to eat and down even to what colors to wear.)

When Vincent was six and Vaniel was nine, their parents died in a car wreck just outside the city limits of Alice Springs. Orphaned at a young age, they were sent to live together with a foster family. Foster family after foster family passed the children on as Vaniel sabotaged all attempts at a new life. Vaniel was set on raising Vincent himself, which, at the time, Vincent did not object to... as he had taken to following his brother's every word and choice.

Around the time that Vaniel turned eighteen (and Vincent was fifteen) he got mixed up in the group known around Alice Springs as Team Rogue. Team Rogue was much like Kanto's Team Rocket and Vaniel abandoned his job for the ranks of Rogue instead. While the group performed illegal activities, it was nothing Vaniel had ever been opposed to. Theft, brawling and sabotage were things he was not above. That, and given the fact that Vaniel was still very protective and controlling of his sibling, Vaniel forced Vincent to join the ranks of Rogue as well.

For a while, the activities of Team Rogue would provide the brothers with the means of living. And, while Vincent kept their actions a secret from Melani, (as Vincent knew Melani would be completely against the fact) he still had not learned how to disobey his brother. After all, Vaniel was the only family Vincent had. So, Vincent stuck with Team Rogue and the theft and havoc that the team caused.

Vaniel himself would actually rise in the ranks of Rogue, hitting the rank of Executive when he turned twenty and when Vincent was seventeen. It was around this time that Vaniel and Vincent's relationship would begin to break down. Having grown secretly jealous of Vincent's relationship with Melani, Vaniel sought a way to break the two apart so that Vincent would once again be solely his brother and not also Melani's boyfriend.

Such a chance of breaking the two up did present itself. Vaniel and Vincent would be assigned to a mission where they were supposed to steal a oil from a production plant in Alice Springs. After sneaking into the compound with another handful of grunts, Vincent and Vaniel got to work. But, it did not take Vincent long before he realized someone else was there... Melani. Vaniel had tipped her off in secret and, in turn, exposed Vincent as a member of Rogue to the last person Vincent wanted to know.

Terrified at losing the girl he loved more than the world, Vincent rushed to explain. Melani, however, couldn't be convinced that Vincent was an honest person anymore. Upset, she began to leave. In anger, Vincent accused Vaniel of being at fault. To which Vaniel replied with a snarl, asking of his younger brother what he had ever done to deserve such an attitude, when all he had ever done was care for Vincent.

Distraught, Vincent made to rush after Melani. That ended in folly. Vaniel grabbed his younger brother and threw him against the fence of the compound. The next moment, Vincent found a knife to his eye, held by his own brother and with the threat that if Vincent tried to leave, Vaniel would leave him blind.

Melani would be the one to break up the hold. Despite not wanting to trust Vincent any longer, she could not abandon him, love is not a thing so easily reversed. She shoved Vaniel away from Vincent and, though in the process Vincent was left with the gash that would become his iconic scar and partial blindness in his right eye, he was freed from Vaniel's hold. Vaniel would turn his knife on the girl instead, but he wouldn't get the chance to use it.

Unfortunately, in the process, the trio in the tussle managed to trip the alarm system at the compound. As officers and their Growlithe began to rush the scene, Vincent and Melani would flee. Vaniel was on their tail. Growlithes hot after them, two of the dogs would be given a poor order of a Flamethrower attack in the middle of an oil storehouse.

The result was disaster, though Vincent can not recall most of the events, he can remember her screams mixed with his own cries. He can remember his brother dragging him away and then all he can remember was darkness as he blacked out. He would wake up three days later in the Alice Springs hospital. His arm seared with pain from the burns it has received, but he sat up to find his brother in the bed next to him.

Vincent was faced with a choice. He did not know if his brother had meant to kill him and/or Melani that night. He did not know how Melani got trapped in the warehouse while himself and Vaniel escaped being burned alive. But his suspicion was there. And, because of that suspicion, so was the only logical choice. Vincent knew he faced charged for being a criminal, so his only choice was to leave.

And leave he did, fleeing that very evening.

He ran home, retrieving Tern (then a Pidgeotto) as well as some of his belongings. He also snuck to Melani's home, and, though he dare not faced her parents, he coaxed Roo (then a Pikachu) to come with him as well. That done, Vincent hitchhiked his way out of Alice Springs and to the nearest port town, sailing away from home and life as he knew it forever.

He landed, surprisingly, in Kanto's Vermilion City. Vincent would spend years in the area, exploring and relinking himself to nature. He would sleep among the flocks of birds, leaning how it was Tern might have been had Tern remained wild. He even offered to let Roo leave with a group of wild Pikachu, only to find that Roo denied such a thing sullenly, choosing to remain with Vincent.

In time, Vincent would discover his want to become a Ranger, as his father had been before him. After all, for a person who no longer wanted to be a criminal and who wanted to find a way to reconcile and reverse his wrongs, being a Ranger seemed the most likely course of action. So, in his twenties, Vincent joined the Kanto Rangers.

Time would fly by as he went through his training. Eventually, as he rose easily in the ranks he would be passed Head Leadership of the Base. Having settled happily into his new life, Vincent has taken a rather optimistic outlook on life. But there's only one thing he can't shake... and that's the possibility that Vaniel might still be out there... looking for him.

Ya can't let things get ya down. wrote:Vince let out a sigh and raked his bangs from his eyes. Squinting out across the field, he shook his head. Misty days like this always gave his distance perception trouble. Sometimes he felt like he should have taken that doctor up on the eye surgery... but no. Being hampered as he was reminded him of everything he had done.

Shaking his head again and then tapping his foot, he cracked an easy smile as he looked up to see a familiar sight. Tern banked right, spiraling down lazily and then circling around Vincent's form. Chuckling at his partner, Vincent watched at the Pidgeot soared towards the target Vincent had been looking at.

Tern gave a powerful flap of his wings, sending a Gust attack without order into the mist laden grasses in front of the duo. Roo gave a cry and leapt out of the grasses with sparks flying from her yellow cheeks.

"Rai, rai-rai," she scolded the bird angrily and then looked to Vincent for support.

Vincent only began walking towards her with a chortle. "Don't look at me, Roo, we were supposed ta find ya. That was tha purpose of this exercise, 'member?" A sudden burst of wing to his shoulder told him that Tern had circled back around to hover behind his right shoulder. His ponytail tossing against his back, Vincent gave a fond smile to his oldest friend.

Roo then scurried forward, leaping onto Vincent's left shoulder with a snort of dejection. Vince reached up and scratched her behind the ear. "Relax, ya dag. I still love ya."

"Chu."

The Ranger then turned and shaded his eyes against the sunlight. With a wry grin, he glanced at both his partners and then gestured back towards the direction of base. "C'mon, ya hoons. We'll make'a sanger or three when we get back."
