Originally a very strong Psychic herself, rumors circulated she was quite possibly stronger than Sabrina in some fields, Sophia excelled in powers relating to future-sight and dimensional awareness. She could foretell things long before they happened and in fine detail, which is much more than the hazy visions that some Psychics get.
As time went on, Sophia and her father, a prominent psychic, were wrapped up into an experiment on the girl's young mind. A device had been constructed, called a TAROS (Transper and Response Omni-Sphere). It was a machine to simulate what Sophia could do, to cut through space and time and see through to the future in addition to being able to control the minds of others.
By connecting thousands of Alakazam minds, the Soviet scientist Dimtri Varov set up the TAROS in a secret city in Russia, Yamsk 11. The facility was then tested on Sophia on December 12th, 19XX. The TAROS malfunctioned, sending out powerful psychic waves and killing most everyone nearby.
The first type of waves were Iota class. They were weaker, but still emanate out from the facility today, dissipating over a distance. They caused anyone nearby to Yamsk 11 to go crazy and murder each other and destroy the city. Anyone approaching the core of the abandoned complex and the source of the Iota particles will be struck with constant and overpowering sensations of déjà vu and nausea.
The second class of waves were Tau waves. This wave dissipated quickly, but not over distance, hence it spread all over the world. The Tau wave had no effect on normal people, but led to creation of the Whispered: children born on December 24, 19XX in a three minute interval after 11:50 GMT.
Tessa Testarossa theorized that, according to the explanation of psychologist Alice Miller, the moment a newborn baby is born there is special activity in the basal ganglia and occipital lobe, and the Tau wave's impact at that moment of mental activation connected those newborns to the Omni-Sphere, the future sight that Sophia once possessed and the abilities of the TAROS to foretell the future as well.
But what happened to Sophia? She still remains at the TAROS facility today. Her consciousness is preserved in a crystalline state, something like a ghost, still preserved in the test chamber she had been hooked up to all those years ago.
